Artist Statement

I work primarily in oil paint and have recently transitioned from painting on traditional white gessoed surfaces to working directly on raw linen, which I prepare with PVA sizing. This shift has transformed my relationship to the medium. Painting directly into the fabric creates a more intimate and responsive exchange; rather than applying paint onto a surface, I experience the process as painting with it, where material and image develop in tandem.

As a self-taught artist, my practice has been shaped by experimentation and a commitment to developing a personal visual language. I value the process of trial and error as an essential method of discovery, allowing technique to emerge organically over time. This approach continues to inform both my material decisions and conceptual direction.

My recent work centers on contemplative scenes drawn from lived experience, exploring moments and sensations that resist verbal articulation. I am interested in translating these quiet, often ambiguous experiences into visual form—creating space for reflection and emotional resonance.

Music plays a significant role in my practice, particularly immersive and genre-defying compositions. I draw a great deal of inspiration from the atmospheric soundscapes of Hania Rani and the experimental ambient work of Tim Hecker, whose approaches to tone, structure, and duration inform my understanding of mood and presence in painting. Visually, I am influenced by 20th-century painters Francis Bacon and Edward Hopper, whose works navigate tension, isolation, and psychological depth.

Like the artists who inspire me, I aim to build a distinct visual ecosystem—one that synthesizes intuition, material exploration, and emotional inquiry. Through my work, I seek to expand the possibilities of painting while remaining grounded in a deeply personal and evolving process.
